The Bulgarian Centre for Not-for-Profit Law is partner of the UN initiative “A day for all”

22 November 2016

How are we involved?

The Bulgarian Center for Not-for-profit Law joins the campaign "A day for all" in response to the invitation extended by the United Nations. We are joining the initiative through the campaign for supported decision making and the exhibition "I decide = I am." The campaign is positive and gives voice to the concerns and fates of people who daily fight for the little things in life - those subtle but essential for each person rights, whether living with or without disabilities.
All of us from the team of Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law believe in the power of the human will and kindness, therefore we find the meaning in telling these hidden stories to as many people as possible.

As participants in the program "Next step", together with our partners – the Bulgarian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities and the Global Initiative on Psychiatry - Sofia, we provided the team of "A day for all" with series of videos and texts telling about the lives of people with intellectual disabilities in Bulgaria.

Again as part of the initiative, the exhibition "I decide = I am" will be exhibited in Geneva. This will support the promotion of the campaign for supported decision-making, not only in Bulgaria but also across the world. Author of the exhibition is Nadezhda Georgieva (Nad), with texts by Yana Buhrer Tavanier.

The exhibition will open on December 2 in Geneva at the office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Through the stories that the paintings tell, we will celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities - 3 December.

"I decide = I am" is an initiative of the Bulgarian Center for Not-for-Profit Law, the Bulgarian Association of People with Intellectual Disabilities, the Global Initiative on Psychiatry - Sofia and the "Maria's World Foundation."

Media partner - Bulgarian National Television.

More about the initiative

The Day4All consortium was formed in 2015, to celebrate the International Day of persons with disabilities, on December 3. In order to make the celebration truly inclusive, it should be open and welcome everyone. In addition to being a day for celebrating accomplishments and achievements of persons with disabilities, it is believed that December 3 is an opportunity to invite people around the world to embrace persons with disabilities as part of human diversity.

The driving force behind the initiative "A day for all" are the organizations and individuals working for the rights of people with disabilities. They all are united in the desire to show the world that people with disabilities are a wonderful part of our world, and the colors they bring complement the colorful picture of human diversity.
