June 19th, 2022, 2 PM in TOPLOCENTRALA - the new heart of art of Sofia

It’s time for festivals! We will be together again for the second edition of the art festival CIVIC ALARM CLOCK! Once again we have the pleasure of inviting you to join us and put the rights on stage, to dance, to sing, and to have fun. And you will find all of this at a truly inspiring place - TOPLOCENTRALA, more known as the new heart of art of Sofia!

This year more than 100 artists took part in the fifth edition of the competition for socially engaged art CIVIC ALARM CLOCK. We prompted them to think and create art on the topic “ASSOCIATED - the force of being TOGETHER”. We believe that the key to a meaningful life is us being together and united in the name of the causes that change our world for better. Well, after we saw tons of awesome works in the three categories: PHOTOGRAPHY, ILLUSTRATION, AND TEXT, and after our virtual audience already chose its favorites, the time has come for us to know which authors and works will be distinguished by the professional jury this year.

 

And is there a more fitting place for awards and surprises than the open sunny stage of the CIVIC ALARM CLOCK Festival?

 

By custom, apart from the awards ceremony, we have prepared a diverse program with which we are planning to immerse you in the festive atmosphere, gathering brave and sympathetic people, who value freedom, support civil causes, and believe that rights are a value, rather than a condition.

 

If you have always wondered what is life with a cause, come and meet at least 100 people, who would love to tell you about it!

The festive mix has already been stirred up, and the recipe consists of musical, dancing, and creative activities for young and old. Here you can see what we have prepared for the day of the festival:

 

2:00 - 2:15 PM | Terrace Bar | CIVIC ALARM CLOCK 2022 Festival Opening

 

Music and dancing workshops:

 

2:15 - 3:15 PM | Terrace Bar | RHYTHM WORKSHOP

“If we were to beat anything, let’s beat the drums,” says Deyan Petrov-Ditsata - a percussionist, drummer, one of the founders of Yambadon (the first Bulgarian group that plays traditional African rhythms), who will not be in the role of a host of the Rhythm Workshop. In The Power of the Common Pulse workshop, we will be making and creating common rhythmic figures, building the feeling for togetherness. The drums will charge us with energy, we will feel connected to the others, and get the feeling of a community. We will get to connect with our own spirit on a deeper and more soaring level. Let’s set the rhythm of the festival together!

 

3:30 - 4:30 PM | Terrace Bar | AFRO DANCE WORKSHOP

We have set the rhythm - so far, so good! Now, however, it is time for us to move! Here, Maria Cossa - an Afro dance teacher, a reality creator, and a seeker of meanings, will help us. We will get to know how to easily step on the wooden floor, led by the rhythm of the exotic musical instrument djembe. Let’s be together in the throes of the joint dance! We will be waiting for you!

 

4:45 - 5:45 PM | Terrace Bar | SWING DANCE WORKSHOP

After last year we literally experienced the cult number Singing in the Rain, now, it is time for swing dance beneath the yellow June sun! Together with Kalina and Miro, we will get to learn and feel what it is like to dance to swinging jazz music with a partner. The awesome dancers from Swing Society will present to us Lindy Hop - the most popular swing dance. Even if you do not have any experience or a partner to dance with, do not worry - come, and we will have fun!

 

Creative activities:

2:15 - 6:45 PM |Terrace Bar | CREATIVE ACTIVITIES FOR RECREATION OF RIGHTS THROUGH ART AND CIVIL-EDUCATORY GAMES

Throughout the whole day, you will be able to immerse yourself into the world of photography, painting, and creating writing, when you take part in the planned games, challenges and creative activities. You never know, someone might receive an inspiration and create their work for the next edition of the competition CIVIC ALARM CLOCK?!

 

Awarding of Prizes:

7:00 - 7:50 PM |Bar Stage | AWARDING THE AUTHORS IN THE COMPETITION CIVIC ALARM CLOCK vol.5

Here, we will get to know which are the distinguished authors and works in the competition for socially engaged art CIVIC ALARM CLOCK this year! At the ceremony, we will draw the winners in the online voting raffle.

 

Concert Party:

8:00 - 9:00 PM |Terrace Bar | KERANA & KOSMONAVTITE - ACOUSTIC

A festival with no music is not a festival. That’s why we will welcome the phenomenal, extraterrestrial, cosmic, and fresh KERANA & KOSMONAVTITE, who will jam to the coolest acoustic pieces, on the CIVIC ALARM CLOCK stage. Officially, the band has 6 amazing original songs, whose songwriter is Kerana, while the music and the arrangements are group work. After taking part and getting to the final of the TV singing competition The Voice of Bulgaria in 2020, Kerana certainly became one of the most quickly developing artists on the Bulgarian music stage.

 

9:00 - 10:00 PM | Terrace Bar | COOL DEN

To finish the cool day, we will dance and sing with … COOL DEN! The boys write songs for the people - this is how one can describe the band’s works. If you were to ask them about the style, probably they would tell you that they do “a bit of everything” - a bit of punk, a little hip-hop, a little grunge, a bit of rock, a little ska and reggae. A hodgepodge. Well, we got hungry and can’t wait to taste this wonderful musical dish!

 

Closing:

10:00 - 10:10 PM | Terrace Bar | Closing the Event
